Destination Imagination Opportunity
Here is some brief information on the group, Rising Stars!, and general Destination Imagination (D.I) information:

Designed for 4- to 7-year-old students, Rising Stars! is the perfect introduction to creative problem solving. Rising Stars! participants work in teams to solve an age-appropriate Team Challenge, and an optional Instant Challenge. As they work together, they explore and develop their creative and critical thinking skills. Best of all, the noncompetitive nature of Rising Stars! allows teams to display their creative solutions in a fun and encouraging environment.

The Rising Stars! program is uniquely positioned to develop and polish children’s presentation skills. Rising Stars! children, as a result of the many presentations they create, will enjoy the following benefits:
Gains in self-confidence
Gains in self-control
Gains in stage presence
Gains in public-speaking ability

Destination ImagiNation (DI) is an educational program in which student teams solve open-ended Challenges and present their solutions at Tournaments.
If you are interested, you can contact Dave Torgerson -DI Coordinator- destination.imagination@badger.k12.wi.us or you can read more about Destination Imagination by going to our district or school website and clicking the tab.

Reading FOR a Ticket!
Often we say reading IS the ticket!  But now we are reading FOR a ticket!  A GREAT AMERICA TICKET!!!  Your child is bringing home a note with very specific directions to follow in order to complete 6 hours of reading, and in return your child will earn a Great America ticket to use this summer.  This is a wonderful opportunity for you to help encourage your child to read on a daily basis.  I encourage all children to complete the reading challenge.  Even if your family doesn't choose to go to Great America, it is still a good opportunity for your child to earn recognition for completing the reading challenge.  Check your child's folder for more details.  I am hoping for 100% participation!

Due Date:  February 16th

Family Project ~ Snowmen!
The January Family Project is to create an unusual snowman!  Each child will bring home three stapled paper plates to use as a base for the snowman.  Be as creative as you can, and use any materials you have around your home.  We encourage the children to avoid using crayons and markers ~ really think outside the box.  The children are also expected to write about their snowmen.  Writing paper is included.  Please encourage your child to do his best work.  Watch as your child writes to be sure he is forming all of his letters from the top - down, and always have your child write with a pencil.  Thank you for taking extra time to do this project.  The snowmen will be displayed proudly in the kindergarten hallway.  Enjoy working with your child.

Due Date:  January 20th

Public Library Cards
We will be visiting the Lake Geneva Public Library on a monthly basis, and if you haven't sent in your child's library card please do so as soon as possible.  Remember that the children will be allowed to check out two books, if they have a library card.  These books can be returned by you, or you can return them to the school at least 3 days prior to the due date.  The school will then take them to the Public Library for you.  Children will not be allowed to continue to check out books if they accumulate fines.  Many Thanks!

Next Visit:  January 12th!
